Glaucoma Unit
Glaucoma, commonly known as the “silent thief of sight,” is a group of eye diseases characterized by increased pressure inside the eye, which can damage the optic nerve and lead to gradual vision loss if not detected and treated early. Statistics indicate that glaucoma affects more than 70 million people worldwide, representing approximately 2–3% of the population.
Glaucoma is considered one of the most serious eye diseases because, in most cases, it develops without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. The vision loss and blindness caused by glaucoma are irreversible and cannot be restored once damage has occurred. Fortunately, early detection and appropriate treatment can effectively control the disease and prevent blindness.
We recommend annual eye examinations, especially if you:
• Are over the age of 40
• Have a family history of glaucoma or diabetes
• Have diabetes, cataracts, uveitis, or myopia (nearsightedness)
• Use corticosteroid eye drops for extended periods
To help protect your vision, we have established a comprehensive Glaucoma Unit equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies for early detection and effective management. Our services include medical therapy, laser treatments, and surgical interventions, delivered to the highest standards of ophthalmic care.
